Restoring Your Smile’s Strength and Beauty

Dental Crowns

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that is placed over a damaged tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance. Crowns are often used to protect a weak tooth, to prevent further damage, or to improve the appearance of a discolored or misshapen tooth.

Why Do You Need a Dental Crown?

  • Protect a Weak Tooth: If a tooth has a large filling or is cracked, a crown can strengthen it and prevent it from breaking.
  • Restore a Broken Tooth: A crown can be used to repair a chipped or cracked tooth.
  • Cover a Discolored Tooth: A crown can cover a tooth that is discolored due to root canal treatment, medication, or excessive fluoride.
  • Hold a Dental Bridge in Place: Crowns can be used to anchor a dental bridge, which replaces one or more missing teeth.
  • Cover a Dental Implant: A crown is placed on top of a dental implant to complete the restoration process.

Dental Crown Procedure

The process of getting a dental crown typically involves:

  • Preparation: The dentist will prepare the tooth by removing any decay or damaged portions. The tooth will then be shaped to fit the crown.
  • Impression: The dentist will take an impression of your prepared tooth, which will be used to create a custom-made crown in a dental laboratory.
  • Temporary Crown: While your permanent crown is being made, the dentist will place a temporary crown to protect your tooth.
  • Permanent Crown Placement: Once the permanent crown is ready, the dentist will remove the temporary crown and permanently cement the new crown in place.
